Wisdom Teeth Removal Cost – What To Expect

Today we’re going to take a look at the factors that contribute to wisdom teeth removal cost and what you can expect to pay if you are going to have your wisdom tooth extracted.

Wisdom teeth are a set of four extra teeth that emerge behind the back molars, usually when we are in our late teens or early twenties. Essentially they are a set of back-up teeth and, before we could cook our food and had to gnaw away at all manner of hard surfaces, would have been quite useful. These days they tend to get in the way more than they benefit people and most people have them removed.

And, even though so many people seem to have phobias about wisdom tooth extraction, most of them go smoothly.

At Dental 266 our dental practitioners are highly experienced at wisdom tooth removal and can assist you with a convenient appointment to ease any anxieties you might have.

What Factors Affect Wisdom Teeth Removal Cost?

How complex is your case?

burwood wisdom tooth extractionIn your initial consultation your dentist will evaluate your mouth and inspect your wisdom teeth. He or she will be looking to see if the wisdoms are impacted, if there is any infection present or if there are signs of decay.

If your case is straightforward you will probably have the procedure performed in your dentist’s chair. Your gum will be numbed with local anaesthetic so that your dentist can cut into it. Your dentist will extract your tooth after cleaning the area up. Because of the anaesthetic you will probably feel the pressure of the tooth being removed but you should not feel any pain.

If your wisdoms are impacted, or your jaw is too small for the dentist to access he may recommend a general anaesthetic. If you are going to have multiple wisdoms extracted at the same time you may also be given general anaesthetic.

Are you having local or general anaesthetic?

On average you could expect to pay between $150 and $500 per tooth, depending on if you are administered local anaesthetic. Of course, if your wisdoms are removed in a hospital facility and general anaesthetic is administered, the cost will be significantly higher, ranging up to $3000 per tooth.

Are there any complications?

For a lot of people, the wisdom teeth are only given attention when they start to present with problems. If your wisdoms are impacted or have formed cysts, then removing them will be much more complex and costlier.

How many wisdom teeth are you having extracted?

If one wisdom tooth is bothering you it may be worthwhile to have them all removed at once. If your jaw is too small for your wisdom teeth to erupt then the rest are going to give you similar problems in the future. Of course, removing all four at once will add to your total wisdom teeth removal cost.

At Dental 266 we are pleased to offer our patients an affordable wisdom tooth extraction service performed by experienced and skilled professionals.  Have questions about wisdom teeth removal cost? Contact our practice today: 02 9051 0600 .
